School mate of Sri Lanka's slain LTTE leader confesses about military procurements

A Sri Lankan origin ethnic Tamil who claims to be a schoolmate of slain leader of the Tamil Tiger terrorist outfit Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) has made a confession in the open court yesterday regarding his terrorist activities.

The suspect, Gunasundaram Jayasundaram, an Irish citizen, is a former resident of LTTE leader Prabhakaran's hometown of Velvettiturai in Jaffna. He was arrested in September 2007 in Colombo under suspicion of supporting the LTTE. Jayasundaram, reportedly a key fundraiser and operative of the LTTE's international intelligence wing, has confessed that he acted to purchase a ship for the LTTE and to supply military gear to the rebel organization from Singapore and Malaysia. He was arrested by the Terrorist Investigation Department of Sri Lanka Police in 2007 and has been in custody for six years under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் தலைவர் வேலுப்பிள்ளை பிரபாகரனின் பாடசாலை நண்பர் ஒருவர் பயங்கரவாத செயற்பாடுகளில் ஈடுபட்டதாக ஒப்புக்கொண்டுள்ளார். குணசுந்தரம் ஜயசுந்தரம் என்பவரே இவ்வாறு குற்றத்தை ஒப்புக்கொண்டுள்ளார். ஜயசுந்திரம் ஓர் அயர்லாந்து பிரஜை என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

பயங்கரவாத செயற்பாடுகளுடன் தொடர்புடைய குற்றச்சாட்டின் பேரில் புலனாய்வுப் பிரிவினர் கடந்த 2007ம் ஆண்டு செப்டம்பர் மாதம் கொழும்பில் வைத்து ஜயசுந்தரத்தை கைது செய்திருந்தனர். தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் சர்வதேச புலனாய்வுப் பிரிவின் பிரதம நிதி சேகரிப்பாளராக குணரட்னம் கடமையாற்றியுள்ளார் என விசாரணைகளின் மூலம் தெரியவந்துள்ளது.

கப்பல் மற்றும் ஏனைய இராணுவ தளவாடங்களை புலிகளுக்காக தாம் கொள்வனவு செய்ததாக ஜயசுந்தரம் ஒப்புக்கொண்டுள்ளார்.பயங்கரவாதத் தடைச் சட்டத்தின் கீழ் ஜயசுந்தரம் கடந்த ஆறு ஆண்டுகளாக தடுத்து வைத்து விசாரணை செய்யப்பட்டார் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

குற்றச்சாட்டுக்களை ஒப்புக்கொண்ட ஜயசுந்தரம், தமக்கு புனர்வாழ்வு அளிக்குமாறு நீதிமன்றில் கோரிக்கை விடுத்துள்ளார். நல்ல பிரஜையாக மீண்டும் சமூகத்தில் இணைந்து கொள்ள விரும்புவதாகக் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.
