| Balachandran Prabhakara, the 12-year-old son of the rebel leader, was shown in an earlier video with bullet wounds on his body. The Independent newspaper in Britain which published the latest photograph today said the images were taken in May 2009 at the very end of the Sri Lankan government’s operation to crush the LTTE. “This is not the first time such unsubstantiated allegations are leveled against the Sri Lankan forces. Interestingly, these come up as we near UNHRC meeting and die down thereafter. No substantive evidence have been presented for us to launch an investigation. Unfortunately, it appears that the parties who float such baseless allegations never want these to be investigated or solved. They want to keep them as mysteries in order to tarnish the country’s good image as and when it suits their agendas,” the army spokesman said. He said that although some sections of the international community, with vested interests, try to distort the real picture, those who visit Sri Lanka know better. “Already we have some complaints being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department. If there is genuine concern in bringing the perpetrators to justice the concerned parties have to make complaints to the police with evidence rather than floating rumors and baseless allegations through internet and other media. I wish they were more interested in having these investigated, and if they cooperate with credible evidence we shall solve these once and for all,” he said. http://eng.lankasri.com/view.php?224Old0acJ5YOd4e3KMC302cAmB3ddeZBmS203eWAA2e4KY5naca2lOS42 |
