Initially Asian Tribune whispered to 'compromise and not to confront' in the ear of someone, who was able to put it across to the ‘shakers and movers,’ and now already the process is on.
It is learnt already concerned party (ies) have arrived, discussed and the message has been taken across for negotiation.
This arrangement should have been done long ago, but even now it is not late, though US has announced in the high Segment session of the UN Human Rights Council, that it will come up with a procedural resolution against Sri Lanka.
Asian Tribune learnt that many patriotic minded Sri Lankans have impressed on President Mahinda Rajapaksa to be pragmatic, not to adopt a confrontational stance, but to negotiate with US - a move which might deflect the gravity of the US stance in favor of Sri Lanka.
They also reminded that US has earlier openly came forward to encourage the adoption of a domestic mechanism on reconciliation and accountability.
It should be noted that international relationship is not premised on absolute logic or absolute certainty.
Therefore in an international relationship mutual trust, respect and understandings are the most important factors.
Sri Lanka is not a greenhorn in negotiation and they can always impress on USA to adopt a mutually acceptable friendly stance.
Anyhow, the emissary (ies) who have flown to Washington DC with message from Sri Lanka is expected to start negotiation from Monday to come up with the final stance of US and the West against Sri Lanka.
It seems Sri Lanka has informed that it will not challenge USA, will adopt a non-confrontational approach, will not call for a division once the watered down version of the resolution is introduced and also indicated that they are willing to expedite the domestic process on reconciliation and accountability.
Therefore, it is learnt Sri Lankan negotiator and US might work out a watered down resolution, behind the scene, which might not affect the positions of either USA or Sri Lanka. Asian Tribune further learnt that US is expected to present the amended version of its resolution today.
Anyhow, US might come up with a further watered down final version on 22nd March, when the resolution will be taken up for discussion and adoption at the UN Human Rights Council session . |
